Position Summary

Work involves 50% fieldwork and 50% laboratory work. Fieldwork includes planting, maintaining grain and forage crops, and sampling field trials for insects and plant measurements. Laboratory work involves sorting and inspecting plant samples for diseases and insect damage, various measurements, processing samples, and data entry in Excel. The employee may be required to travel out of town to research plots during the workday and will receive specific work instructions each day.

Duties

/ Responsibilities
  • Fieldwork:
    Planting, maintaining, harvesting, and processing field studies; sampling field trials for insects and plant measurements.
  • Laboratory work:
    Processing, sorting, inspecting plant samples for diseases and insect damage; data collection and entry in Excel.
  • Data entry and organization of results.
  • Assist with out-of-town travel to research plots during workday as needed.
Education / Experience

High school or equivalent combination of education and work experience in the lab and field plots or a related area. Additional training will be provided.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands

Bend and lift up to 50 pounds; work in a laboratory for multiple hours a day; intermittent out-of-town travel; driving as needed for job duties.

  • Not a position of trust.
  • No operation, access, or control of financial resources.
  • No P‑Card requirement.
  • Driving is required.
