Job Description

The vegetable entomology research laboratory investigates how pest insects affect vegetable productivity in Georgia and how to best control these pests. Current tasks include maintaining insect colonies (e.g., whitefly and diamondback moth), collecting and processing samples, and entering data.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Rapidly identify and count small insects under a stereo microscope.
  • Assist with insect colonies and maintain plant food for colonies.
  • Plant seeds/seedlings for colonies and research tests.
  • Scout and perform other duties related to entomological field research.
  • Process samples (frozen or in alcohol) on a scheduled weekly basis.
  • Check colonies and plants twice weekly.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings to determine additional duties.
Qualifications

High school diploma preferred.

Physical Demands & Other Requirements
  • Long periods of microscope use.
  • Lift soil tubs and standard potting trays with full pots.
  • Driving required.
  • Some field work in agricultural settings.
