Position SummaryThis position is needed to support the Entomology department as a part of Dr. Joseph’s research program with Turf and Ornamentals in Georgia. This position will assist the supervising faculty with research projects.
Duties/Responsibilities- Maintenance of field plots and insect colonies for research purposes.
- Growth of insecticide-free plants in greenhouse, including routine washing and cleaning of insect-rearing containers.
- Isolation of pathogen samples with care to avoid contamination.
- Collection of experimental response variables including insect counts, impact of entomopathogen applications, plant damage ratings, and assessments of plant physiology.
- Work in lab, greenhouse, and field environments.
- Frequent visits to trial plots to observe and record data on insect and production.
- Data management including data entry, organization, statistical analyses, data presentation, and development of technical reports.
- Enter ratings into spreadsheets and perform quality assurance.
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Positive attitude.
- Excellent work ethics.
- Competency in rearing insects is desirable.
- Bend and lift at least 50 pounds.
- Work in a laboratory for multiple hours a day.
- Intermittent out-of-town travel to research plots during the workday.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
