Research Assistant/Associate, Clinical Research, Medical Technologist & Lab Technician
Position Summary
This role is responsible for the organization and implementation of research projects including data collection, assay development, execution, and project management. These projects may entail laboratory and/or clinical research. The Lab Tech will work as part of a team of departmental technicians serving a large department of faculty researchers. Primary duties involve laboratory work, and light animal work (restraint, medicating, assessing) may be required.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
- Prior research experience.
- Read and develop basic understanding of research project protocols
- Strong organizational skills, detailed oriented and accurate
- Basic laboratory skills, including sterile technique, cell culture and basic analytical skills
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills while carrying out instructions
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality, while providing consultation to a variety of stakeholders
- Maintain a positive attitude and calm demeanor throughout stressful situations
- Accept constructive criticism
- Basic computer knowledge in MSWord and Excel
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces
- Work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery
- Wear required protective gear (facemask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles)
- Work for long periods of time with arms extended
- Organize and assist in implementation of research projects including data collection, assay development and execution, and project management
- Perform molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as RT and gel‑based PCR, flow cytometry, western blots, cell culture, ELISAs, and HPLC
- Sample processing, assay development and execution for clinical trials
- Conduct complex research experiments and follow concise lab protocols to process samples under precise requirements from sponsor or research funds
- Work with multiple investigators within the department in their respective fields and communicate professionally regarding workflow, time limitations, and project status
- Perform laboratory maintenance duties such as autoclaving, dishwashing, disposing of hazardous waste, and technical equipment maintenance
- Order and stock to maintain the inventory of chemicals, media and other supplies; prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions
- Maintain a clean and sterile lab environment; assist with research‐associated administration duties such as package shipping and receiving
- Maintain accurate records for every aspect of research projects; assist with literature searches and file management; prepare data reports
- Administrative duties including shipping and receiving; light animal work may be required; other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor
