Position SummaryThis position seeks to understand the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, with an emphasis in nematode effector biology.
Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct research on the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, including identifying nematode genes important for parasitism and host resistance, and characterizing host target genes essential for compatibility and resistance.
- Handle and analyze genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets, clone candidate plant and nematode genes, and use a variety of molecular and genetic approaches to characterize the function of these genes in nematode parasitism in both crop and model plant systems.
- Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures required for executing research experiments, including planting, watering, harvesting, and propagating nematode cultures.
- Collect and analyze data from experiments directly and in collaboration with the principal investigator.
- Summarize and regularly discuss research results in written and oral formats with the PI; prepare research updates and periodic reports for required grant agencies.
- Present research results at professional scientific meetings at local, national and international venues.
- Supervise student workers and provide mentorship along with the PI to undergraduate researchers that assist with research in the laboratory.
Education and Experience
- Ph.D. in molecular nematology, molecular plant‑microbe interactions, plant molecular biology/genetics, plant development or a related field within the past four years.
- Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in molecular plant‑microbe interactions, plant and/or nematode molecular biology and genetics.
- Experience with statistical and bioinformatics analyses and plant transformation in either crop or model plant systems.
- Demonstrated publication record in peer‑reviewed journals, proficiency in written and spoken English, and proven ability to work independently and on an interdisciplinary team.
Light lifting, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
