Responsibilities- Lead multi-location snapbean variety trial in field to characterize horticultural traits and identify breeding lines for Southeast US evaluation.
- Lead trichome characterization in pepper and tomato in greenhouse and assist collaborators with whitefly and other insect screening.
- Assist in post-harvest fruit quality analysis and collaborate with internal and external partners in laboratory.
- Prepare peer‑reviewed publications, participate in grant proposal preparation, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and seasonal workers during lab, greenhouse, and field set‑up.
- Perform assigned tasks as needed.
- Travel to multiple research locations for field trials; travel may involve early morning and late evening trips.
- Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of breeding methods used in vegetable breeding.
- Experience with analytical biochemistry, molecular biology, and high‑throughput phenotyping equipment and tools.
- Experience in pre‑harvest and post‑harvest biochemistry, physiology, electron microscopy, pre‑breeding, genomic selection, disease resistance screening, and wet‑lab research.
- Proficiency in scripting with Python or R; experience in generation and bioinformatics analysis of metabolomics, transcriptomics, and sequencing data.
- Strong statistical knowledge and application in breeding research.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural team and collaborate across disciplines.
- Valid driving license and willingness to use a vehicle.
- Availability for weekend and extended hours during peak season; ability to travel as required.
Position is exempt under FLSA, full‑time (1.00 FTE). The role requires background investigation and may require a drug test. Driving is a requirement.
