Position Summary
The vegetable entomology research laboratory conducts investigation into how pest insects affect vegetable productivity in Georgia and how to best control these pests. Current tasks include maintaining insect (e.g., whitefly and diamondback moth) colonies, collecting and processing samples, and entering data.
Responsibilities- Rapidly identify and count small insects under stereo microscope magnification.
- Assist with insect colonies, including maintaining plant food, planting seeds/seedlings, and checking colonies twice weekly.
- Process samples (frozen or in alcohol) on a scheduled weekly time.
- Scout and perform other duties related to entomological field research as determined in weekly lab meetings.
- Drive to required locations as part of field work.
- High School diploma (preferred).
- Physical ability to look through a stereo microscope for extended periods, lift soil tubs and potting trays with full pots, and perform some field work.
- Driving requirement.
Look through the stereo microscope for hours at a time to do insect counts, lift soil tubs and standard potting trays with full pots, be on-time for assigned work times, drive, and perform some field work.
