A person in this position will have two primary objectives: the first is to purify proteins from peripheral human blood and characterize them using mass spectrometry. The second goal is to develop an in‑vitro expression system to test how protein modifications impact cell activation. This research, funded by the National Institutes of Health, seeks to determine how Fc gamma receptor (FcγR) modifications influence antibody binding and immune cell activation.
Responsibilities- Isolate Fc gamma receptors from primary human cells. (
20%) - Characterize Fc gamma receptors from primary human cells using mass spectrometry. (
20%) - Develop a recombinant in‑vitro model system to express appropriately modified Fc gamma receptors. (
40%) - Scientific writing of manuscripts, reports, and grant proposals. (
20%)
- A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a related field.
- Significant experience purifying proteins or working with mammalian cells.
- Experience with mass spectrometry is valuable.
- Excellent record keeping and organizational skills.
- Ability to prepare scientific manuscripts and oral presentations.
- Ability to work as a team member and team lead.
• Proficiency in sterile technique, PCR primer design, DNA/RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, sequencing, and protein expression/ purification from host organisms.
Physical DemandsPerform biochemistry experiments in a laboratory, including work at a bench and desk, reaching into equipment such as incubators, and transferring reagents to other rooms.
