Postdoctoral Research Associate – Vilgalys Evolutionary Immunogenomics Lab

Position Summary

The Evolutionary Immunogenomics Lab (PI: Dr. Tauras Vilgalys) at the University of Georgia seeks a highly motivated and independent Postdoctoral Associate to investigate how natural populations resist infectious diseases. The role involves project design, execution, and dissemination of research using high-throughput functional genomics, bioinformatics, and in‑vitro experimental systems to explore primate evolution, host‑pathogen dynamics, and gene‑by‑environment interactions. The position is intended to prepare the candidate for a research scientist career path, offering mentorship and the opportunity to supervise junior scientists.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Conduct scientific research, including project design, execution, and dissemination.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of undergraduates, graduate students, and other laboratory scientists.
Education, Experience, & Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in genetics/genomics, immunology, evolutionary biology, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in immunology, genome regulation, evolutionary genomics, and mammalian cell culture is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated capacity for independent, high‑productivity research.
  • Excellent communication, time‑management, and leadership skills.
  • English language proficiency (written and verbal) is essential.
  • Ability to lead projects involving mammalian cell culture, immunological assays, and functional genomics.
