Fisheries Lab/Research Technician

The Whitehall Fish Facility (ABEL/Fish Lab) is looking to hire a technician to assist with fish culture maintenance and research. The successful candidate’s time will be split between regular fish care and assisting with various research activities for multiple faculty members. May include occasional overnight trips and weekend work.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with maintenance of demonstration cultures of fishes (cleaning tanks, feeding fish, monitoring water quality, etc.)
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and laboratory organization.
  • Assist with maintaining records of animal care.
  • Assist with care and maintenance of research animals (cleaning tanks, feeding fish, monitoring water quality, etc.)
  • Assist graduate students with data collection in the field and in the lab (electrofishing, gill netting, mussel surveys, etc.).
  • Assist graduate students and PIs with equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with specimen preparation and analysis.
  • Assist with data entry and management.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience with aquatic animal husbandry.
  • Familiarity with trailering and operating small boats.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with laboratory/chemical safety protocols.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Work long hours on feet in adverse conditions.
  • Driving.
