Position: Post-Doctoral Associate AD - Dutta-06

Position Summary

The post–doctoral research associate will work on identifying diverse thiosulfinate tolerance gene clusters in bacterial pathogens affecting Alliums. This position will functionally validate these clusters and assess their role in tolerating thiosulfinate in vitro and in vivo. Opportunities are also available to study molecular docking and identify suitable candidates that will make bacteria sensitive to thiosulfinates in Alliums. The incumbent will take a leadership role in data collection, data analysis, and compiling manuscripts for publication in appropriate journals.

The position will work closely with different key industry stakeholders, could be involved in supervising undergraduates, and will present results at local and national conferences.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Utilize state‑of‑the‑art technologies such as genomics and computational biology to identify novel thiosulfinate gene clusters in diverse bacterial pathogens affecting Alliums.
  • Work closely with key industry stakeholders, train undergraduate and graduate students, maintain records related to research projects, synthesize data, present results at local and national conferences, and prepare scientific manuscripts for publication.
  • Work on pathosystems that will include onion, garlic, Japanese bunching onion.
  • Plan and execute functional validation of gene clusters, assess their role in tolerating thiosulfinate in vitro and in vivo, study molecular docking, and identify candidates that make bacteria sensitive to thiosulfinates in Alliums.
  • Lead data collection, data analysis, and compile manuscripts for publication in appropriate journals.
Education and Experience

PhD in plant pathology or biochemistry with emphasis on bioinformatics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working understanding and experience with host and pathogen genomes.

Physical Demands

Light lifting, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Driving as needed to perform job duties.
