Position: Research Technician - Grass Genomes (Devos Lab)

Research Technician – Grass Genomes (Devos Lab) Position Summary

This Research Technician position works as part of a dynamic team on the genetics of grasses. In addition to laboratory research, the post‑holder will assist with planting, maintaining, and harvesting of greenhouse and field experiments. The Devos Lab consists of a multinational team of graduate students and post‑docs working under the supervision of and with people of different cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in next‑generation library preparation.

This position is grant‑funded for five years. While the continuation of funding and employment is anticipated, it is not guaranteed.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Laboratory, greenhouse, and field experimentation (75%)
    Conduct experiments and analysis in the lab, greenhouse, and field. Enter and sort data in spreadsheets, generate reports, maintain lab organization and supplies, order materials, prepare solutions and media, collect samples. Operate day‑to‑day research greenhouse operations including basic repairs. Perform fieldwork at research sites, collect and deliver samples to the lab, install field equipment, analyze data and interpret results, determine next steps.
  • Plant care and harvesting (20%)
    Grow and harvest plant material, water and fertilize crops, coordinate maintenance with facilities management as needed, and research plant establishment, care, and maintenance.
  • General laboratory duties (5%)
    Organize and wash laboratory materials.
