Research Assistant/Associate
Position Summary
This position is needed to support the Entomology department as a part of Dr. Joseph’s research program with Turf and Ornamentals in Georgia. The role assists the supervising faculty with research projects.
Duties / Responsibilities- Maintain field plots and insect colonies for research purposes.
- Grow insecticide‑free plants in the greenhouse and routinely wash and clean insect‑rearing containers.
- Isolate pathogen samples with care to avoid contamination of the lab or the samples.
- Collect experimental response variables, including insect counts, impact of entomopathogen applications, plant damage ratings, and assessments of plant physiology as a measure of different treatments.
- Work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field environments.
- Make frequent visits to trial plots to observe and record data on insects and production.
- Manage data, including data entry, organization, statistical analyses, data presentation, and development of technical reports.
- Enter ratings into spreadsheets and perform quality assurance.
- Assist in data entry and support faculty with related publications and printed materials.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Positive attitude.
- Strong work ethic.
- Desirable competency in rearing insects.
- Bend and lift at least 50 pounds.
- Work in a laboratory for multiple hours a day.
- Intermittent out‑of‑town travel to research plots during the workday.
- Drive when needed to perform job duties.
- Driving is a requirement of this position.
- Position is not a trust position.
- No operation, access, or control of financial resources.
- No P-Card required and not an essential function.
- No direct interaction or care of children under 18, nor direct patient care.
- No security access to sensitive records or chemicals.
