Post-Doctoral Research Associate
The Laboratory of Archaeology at the University of Georgia is seeking a Post‑Doctoral Research Associate specializing in Geographic Information Systems and Computer Modeling in Archaeology for a three‑year, 12‑month, full‑time position. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Laboratory Director and the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources on modeling and risk assessment for archaeological sites in Georgia.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
The role is 100% research and management based within the Laboratory of Archaeology.
Responsibilities include:
developing probability models that account for environmental differences across Georgia; identifying sites at risk from erosion and flooding; collaborating with ITOS to integrate models into online databases; managing undergraduate and graduate student assistants; and contributing to related publications.
- Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field from a CHEA-accredited institution or an international equivalent.
- Demonstrable knowledge of ArcGIS, particularly large‑scale modeling.
- Knowledge of environmental modeling and geostatistical methods.
- Knowledge of state site file data sets.
- Sitting at a computer for extended periods.
- Lifting up to 40 pounds.
