Laboratory Technician

Position Summary

This position supports microbiology research within the Huigens laboratory by performing antibacterial susceptibility assays, maintaining bacterial cultures, and evaluating small molecules for antibacterial activity. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for accurate data generation, analysis, and documentation in compliance with laboratory standards. This role also contributes to overall lab operations by maintaining instruments, managing supply inventory, and supporting organizational tasks essential to efficient lab function.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related area
  • Prior microbiology lab experience working with bacteria
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct microbiology research, including performing antibacterial susceptibility assays and evaluating antibacterial agents, biofilm inhibitors, and biofilmeradicating compounds within the Huigens laboratory. (75% of time)
  • Manage and document experimental data, including maintaining accurate laboratory notebooks, updating shared electronic records, and preparing presentations of research findings. Provide weekly data reports to the principal investigator and present experimental results at biweekly group meetings. (20% of time)
  • Assist with laboratory operations, including maintaining laboratory instruments, monitoring supply inventory, and supporting general lab organization. (5% of time)
Schedule
  • 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary
