Position: Research Professional III (Limited Term 1 year)

Research Professional III (Limited Term 1 Year)

This position has a limited term appointment which is expected to end 1 year after the start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term, contingent upon performance and continued funding for up to 3 years. The incumbent will work independently and collaboratively to provide statistical support to the National Park Service's Inventory and Monitoring Division. This position will work with the Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources while also collaborating with the Department of Statistics.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or

Competencies:

Expertise in statistical analysis and modeling of ecological monitoring data using approaches such as generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs), generalized additive models (GAMs), occupancy modeling, and related methods. Proficiency in R and experience with data management, analysis, and visualization. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex datasets and communicate findings through written reports, presentations, and visual products. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based research environment.

Experience conducting research using data from natural habitats or wild populations, particularly forest vegetation systems. Experience teaching, mentoring, or supporting statistical and quantitative methods training.

Physical Demands:
Sit or stand at a computer for extended periods of time in an office setting. Incumbent may make infrequent observational field visits that may involve some walking, standing, bending, and exposure to inclement conditions including heat, high humidity, biting insects, or potentially dangerous wildlife. Driving as needed to perform job duties.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide statistical and technical assistance – develop methods and tools for quality-control review, analysis, and visualization of data; review monitoring protocols and provide analytical support (such as power and trend analyses and evaluating data variability). Communicate findings – prepare and provide statistical-support reports; present research results to partners and at scientific conferences; prepare a manuscript for publication in peer-reviewed literature.

Manage projects – interact regularly with project partners about tasks, progress, and results; backup files and document code. Program assistance – contribute to professional development of other members of the laboratory; complete trainings and adhere to policies; communicate regularly and in a timely fashion with the PI regarding research or other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory; assist with development of research proposals;

help maintain a supportive collegiate environment. Other duties as assigned.
