Position SummaryThis role involves manual and semi-skilled routine work in the performance of food service duties. The employee applies skills and knowledge acquired through experience to the preparation and service of food and the cleaning and sanitation of equipment and facilities. Duties include cooking and preparing food, applying safety and sanitation techniques to maintain high standards of cleanliness, food quality and presentation, and serving patrons in a pleasant and courteous manner.
Assignments are received as specific oral and written instructions and are reviewed by inspection and observation. This position reports to the 4-H Dining Commons Manager.
- Plan and organize routine work details and follow written and oral directions.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of food preparation and service.
- Ability to interpret and adjust basic recipes.
- Knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service; understanding necessary precautionary measures.
- Knowledge of care and use of food service equipment and kitchen utensils.
- Good communication skills that contribute to a positive work environment.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Flexible in hours worked.
- Learn HACCP and food safety plans and assist in monitoring for compliance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook food of good and safe quality and appealing presentation. (50% of time)
- Serve food at the dining hall; set up serving lines and prepare individual trays; interact with customers from young children to adults. (35% of time)
- General dining hall clean-up work to include washing dishes, pots, pans and equipment; sweeping, mopping, removing trash; washing tables, chairs, and windows. (15% of time)
Bend at the waist and knees, lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs., stand for prolonged periods, and work with arms and hands overhead. Work in and around kitchen heat and in cold coolers/freezers when storing and retrieving stock.
