Overall Job Summary This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives and performing assigned tasks, while providing legendary customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)- Be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts with the ability to work varied hours, including days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.
- Take the initiative to support selling initiatives (TEAM):
Thank the customer, engage with the customer and/or pet, advise products or services, and make it memorable.
Job Duties (Regularly performed, 95% of day)
- Operate cash register/computer and follow cash handling procedures.
- Recover merchandise and participate in mandatory freight processes.
- Complete Plan‑o‑gram procedures (merchandising, sets, resets).
- Assemble merchandise and perform janitorial duties.
- Execute price changes/markdowns.
- Assist customers with loading purchases.
- Ensure safety and well‑being of live animals: sanitize holding tanks and care for animals as required.
- Complete all documentation associated with these duties.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- Experience:
No experience required; retail and/or pet/live animal knowledge strongly preferred. - Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. - Must be able to read, write, and count accurately.
- Preferred skills:
Pet/live animal, pet food, pet product knowledge; strong communication, problem‑solving skills; basic computer skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to resolve issues ethically.
Working environment is favorable, generally inside with moderate noise. Indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt). Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work shifts vary, typically at least 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours. Promote a safe and productive environment and adhere to company safety training and guidelines.
Physical Requirements- Non‑sedentary: move throughout store and outdoor areas quickly and safely.
- Operate all related equipment efficiently, safely, and accurately.
- Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead; frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
- Move throughout store for entire shift; access all areas.
- Operate store equipment: computer, cash register, etc.
- Read, write, and count accurately.
- Use strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Process merchandise through point‑of‑sale system.
- Move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise up to 50 pounds.
- Successfully complete all required training and certification.
