Job SummaryThe Museum Shop Associate serves as the welcoming point of contact for museum visitors, assists with retail transactions, and supports merchandising, inventory, and overall shop operations.
Key Responsibilities- Greet and welcome visitors in a professional, friendly, and engaging manner.
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting guests with merchandise selection, product questions, and purchases.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and accurately process purchases, returns, exchanges, and payment transactions.
- Maintain knowledge of museum exhibitions, programs, and merchandise to answer visitor questions and provide recommendations.
- Promote museum memberships, exhibitions, programs, and special events when appropriate.
- Resolve visitor concerns professionally and, when necessary, promote issues to management.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers.
- Answer the phone in a courteous and professional manner, and, if needed, transfer to the appropriate department.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing shop environment.
- Restock merchandise, organize displays, and assist with merchandising efforts, including exhibit-related and seasonal product placement.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors of low-stock items.
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, pricing, and organizing merchandise shipments.
- Participate in inventory counts, stock reconciliation, and retail reporting processes as assigned.
- Follow established loss prevention and security procedures.
- Ensure shop materials, supplies, and displays are properly maintained and organized.
- Work collaboratively with museum staff to support shop operations and overall visitor experience goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Customer service and cashier experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask.
- Sitting or standing for long periods.
- Lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
- Regular work schedule is weekdays, with flexibility to work some evening and/or weekend shifts as needed.
