Position SummaryThe Tree Nut Entomology Lab focuses on managing insect pests in pecan orchards. The role includes collecting and processing leaf and insect samples, building and deploying traps, and conducting field trials. Activities involve identifying insects with a microscope, scouting pecan orchards, traveling across South Georgia, and maintaining the research block at Ponder Farm in Tifton.
Duties / Responsibilities• Weekly tasks include identifying and counting insects using a microscope, assisting in collecting leaf and insect samples from pecan orchards across South Georgia, and keeping up with the orchards at UGA Ponder farm.
• Assist in creating field trials and building or setting out traps in the field.
• Conduct field data collection from traps or direct observations.
Driving, working outdoors in heat, standing and walking for long periods, and looking through a microscope for extended periods of time.
Preferred Education & ExperienceHigh School Diploma preferred.
