Tsai Lab in the Warnell School of Forestry at UGA is looking for two part-time student workers to help maintain experimental trees in the field and research greenhouses, and help with general upkeep and running of a plant research laboratory. One position is on main campus and the other is in Whitehall forest at the end of Milledge Rd. On-campus tasks include watering plants daily, washing plant pots and trays, plant tissue processing and disposal, stocking supplies, general cleaning, preparation of common reagents, pest monitoring and control, and weeding.
Preferred schedule is 2-3 hours/day, 5 days/week, plus at least one weekend shift per month. The off-campus student assistant will work with our greenhouse research technician to inspect, weed, trim and maintain experimental plants, apply biocontrol and fertilizer, and assist with a variety of other greenhouse maintenance tasks (cleaning, composting, watering). Preferred schedule is 3 hours/day, 3-5 days/week, plus at least one weekend shift (2-4 pm) per month.
Biology, Plant Biology, Ecology, Forestry or other science majors preferred. Coursework in biology or chemistry and previous lab and/or plant care experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to follow complex instructions, ability to work independently, organization skills, attention to detail, precision, self-awareness and manual delicacy.
Physical DemandsLift 50 lbs. Off-campus position requires driving to perform job-related tasks;
Georgia driver’s license and reliable transportation required to reach Whitehall location. On-campus position does not require driving.
