Position SummaryThis highly responsible technical research support position assists with oversight and collection of data related to studies in forest ecosystem ecology, ecophysiology, ecohydrology, fire ecology, and biogeochemistry. Primary duties focus on measurements of ecosystem processes and physiology in forest stands, experimental maintenance, fabrication and repair of sensors, and coordination/training of technicians and students.
Responsibilities- Measurements of ecosystem processes and physiology in forest stands, including tree water use, above‑ and below‑ground growth, gas exchange, and soil sampling.
- General lab and field experiment organization, maintenance, and sensor fabrication.
- Data management, analysis, and preparation of scientific reports, manuscripts, proposals, and permits.
- Experimental maintenance: monitoring, control of experimental treatments, herbicide application, brush cutting, mowing, digging, and other activities.
- Fabrication and repair of sensors and measurement devices.
- Coordinating and training technicians, students, and collaborating scientists.
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related experience.
- BS or MS in Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resources, Wildlife, or related field.
- Experience with forest measurement and ecophysiology techniques (sap flow sensors, soil moisture sensors, thermocouples, data loggers, infrared gas analyzers, pressure chambers, etc.).
- Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic laboratory and data management skills.
- Valid driver's license.
This field position may involve working outdoors in hot or humid conditions and requires occasional herbicide application, fertilizer application, brush cutting, mowing, digging, and other tasks.
