Position Summary
This highly responsible technical research support position at SREL provides assistance with oversight and collection of data related to studies in forest ecosystem ecology, ecophysiology, ecohydrology, fire ecology, and biogeochemistry. Responsibilities include measurements of ecosystem processes and physiology in forest stands, general lab and field experiment organization, data management, analysis, manuscript and proposal preparation, experimental maintenance, fabrication and repair of sensors, and coordination and training of technicians, students, and collaborating scientists.
Responsibilities- Manage day‑to‑day research activities and act as point of contact for lab and field safety issues – 15%
- Provide oversight and leadership of routine and discrete data collection, data management, and QA/QC – 40%
- Provide oversight and leadership of general lab and field experiment organization, maintenance, and sensor fabrication – 40%
- Assist with data analysis and preparation of scientific reports, manuscripts, proposals, and permitting – 5%
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
- BS or MS in Ecology, Forestry, Natural Resources, Wildlife, or related field
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills with laboratory equipment
- Basic laboratory and data management skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience with forest measurement and ecophysiology techniques and equipment (sap flow sensors, soil moisture sensors, thermocouples, data loggers, infrared gas analyzers, pressure chambers, etc.)
Field position requiring outdoor work in potentially hot and humid conditions. Activities include herbicide and fertilizer application, brush cutting, mowing, digging, excavating, and other maintenance tasks.
