Reporting to the Assistant Director of Collections for Electronic Resources and Licensing, the Electronic & Continuing Resources Librarian provides leadership and expertise in the acquisition, licensing, access management, and ongoing evaluation of electronic resources. This position plays a central role in negotiating and managing licenses for databases, electronic journals, e-books, data sets, and emerging digital content that support the University of Georgia’s research, teaching, and public service mission.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Lead electronic resource management activities, overseeing licensing, procurement, renewal, and troubleshooting of continuing resource materials in various formats.
- Serve as primary point of contact for access problems for library staff and UGA students, faculty, and staff, developing proactive processes to identify electronic access issues.
- Design and implement effective workflows incorporating current technologies and standards, staying current with trends in electronic resource management, licensing, access models, scholarly publishing, and academic librarianship.
- Support collections budget management by maintaining accurate continuing resources data and ensuring responsible resource stewardship.
- Hire, train, and evaluate approximately two staff members, develop training workshops, and coordinate workflows with clear responsibilities.
- Collaborate with vendors, publishers, and consortia partners to negotiate favorable pricing and foster strong working relationships, resolving access, order, receiving, and payment issues.
- Notify vendors of renewal and cancellation decisions and keep academic engagement teams informed about resource changes.
- Engage in professional development and participate in library‑wide planning and governance.
An ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science or relevant terminal degree.
2 years of experience in an electronic resources or acquisitions environment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Understanding of vendor relations and knowledge of negotiations and site‑licensing for electronic resources.
- Ability to gather and analyze budgetary and statistical data; awareness of acquisition principles, processes and systems.
- Knowledge of current e‑resource standards and protocols (KBART, COUNTER, SERU).
- Familiarity with electronic resource tools such as link resolvers, discovery services, knowledge bases, and electronic resource management systems.
- Ability to plan, lead, and evaluate e‑resource systems and workflows.
- Knowledge of technical challenges related to online and networked delivery of e‑resources.
- Ability to assess, develop, and implement technology to promote the successful management of the department.
- Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and demonstrate flexibility.
- Ability to supervise, train, and develop a team of staff.
- Knowledge of Ex Libris Alma or Primo VE.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform complex problem‑solving and decision‑making.
