Research Assistant/Associate
Position Summary
This position will assist faculty and staff with greenhouse, research and field plots.
It will also help with extension and teaching activities. The role requires working indoors and outdoors with minimal supervision and may involve intermittent out-of-town travel to research plots. Computer experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics software is a plus.
Responsibilities- Nursery/Greenhouse duties (50%): potting, pruning, weeding, grafting, seeding, data entry, maintaining research plots, watering, fertilizer and pesticide applications, running and maintaining nursery equipment at campus and local research farms.
- Laboratory work (25%): washing dishes, preparing research samples, processing samples, data entry, running and maintaining lab equipment.
- Teaching & Extension duties (25%): assistance with activities associated with preparation of the teaching of a weed science lab and help editing extension publications.
- Education:
High School diploma or GED; training will be provided on all processes and equipment. - Experience &
Skills:
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and general mechanical aptitude. Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics software are a plus.
Lift up to 50 pounds and work in inclement weather, as needed (e.g., rain, snow, heat, cold).
