Positively impact the lives of youth in the care of the Department of Juvenile Justice by creating a safe, therapeutic, and educational environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with policies and standard operating procedures.
- Provides direct support, guidance, and structure for detained youth with emphasis on safety, personal conduct, and rehabilitation.
- Completes administrative paperwork, maintains records, forms, and reports.
- Inspects, inventories, and maintains control of security equipment and technology.
- Maintains order and discipline by actively supervising and controlling inappropriate behavior.
- Supports training, selection, and orientation of subordinate correctional staff.
- Reviews youth information to identify issues requiring special attention.
- Oversees officer activities and performance to ensure custody, security, and welfare of youth.
- May serve as Shift Supervisor in the absence of the Lieutenant.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 6 months of experience as a juvenile correctional officer (PSP
222) or equivalent. - Successful completion of Leadership Core Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced within the first six months of employment.
- State of Georgia P.O.S.T certification within the first six months of employment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Current and valid certification as a Juvenile Correctional Officer by the Georgia POST Council.
- One or more years of experience in a juvenile justice environment.
- Completion of one or more years of college education.
