Benefits- $3,000 HIRING INCENTIVE
This position offers a one-time $3,000 hiring incentive to be paid in $1,000 increments (not added to base salary). Eligible newly-hired Correctional Officer candidates will receive an incremental hiring incentive upon documented satisfactory job performance as follows:
After successfully completing 3 months of employment (Payment #1), after successfully completing 6 months of employment (Payment #2), and after successfully completing 12 months of employment (Payment #3) for a grand total of $3,000. Continuation of this Recruitment/Hiring Incentive Program is subject to available funding and approval by the Manager.

The primary purpose of this job is to maintain order and supervise inmates in the Athens-Clarke County Correctional Institution, Food Service Center, or Diversion Center. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: insure inmate count of the institution is maintained, supervise inmate visitation, maintain security of the facility, coordinate placing of inmates on outside work details, perform regular inspections of the facility, insure institution is clean and sanitary, insure tools and chemicals are properly controlled, provide leadership and supervision over inmates, react quickly and effectively to situations jeopardizing the health and safety of others and perform other duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Twelve-hour shifts, rotating days off. Shifts are 6:00 a.m.
- 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- 6:00 a.m. All Correctional Officers are required to work weekends. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.
High School Diploma or equivalent required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Requires ability to meet current certification requirements set forth in the Georgia Basic Correctional Officer Training program and obtain BCOT Certification in Corrections within twelve months of hire date. Must possess a valid driver's license.
One year of correctional officer experience preferred.
In addition to the above requirements, Corporal candidates must also meet the following:
Two years as a BCOT certified Correctional Officer. Must be able to receive a certificate of Appointment of Notary Public (depending on area of assignment). Must have P.O.S.T. Certification in Corrections and be in good standing. Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field of study preferred.
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Provides for inmate security by observing inmate behavior at all times in assigned area; watching for contraband and making physical inspections of facilities.
- Assists in organizing inmate activities and controlling inmate traffic between activities.
