Schedule: 1st (12:00am‑8:00am), 2nd (8:00am‑4:00pm), 3rd (4:00pm‑12:00am); 2 weekends per four; no on‑call rotations.

UGA’s Central Steam Plant serves over 100 structures with 24‑hour steam and heating needs. The Boiler Operator II is responsible for operating high‑pressure boilers, maintaining maximum operating efficiency across various fuels, ensuring safety, and assisting maintenance staff with repairs. The role includes continuous training and professional development.
Responsibilities- Maintain Boiler Operating Data and logs in accordance with CSP SOPs and state/federal regulations.
- Operate UGA’s high‑pressure boilers locally and remotely, adjusting controls to meet campus steam requirements.
- Use electronic, pneumatic, and computerized monitoring systems to keep boilers running safely and efficiently.
- Respond to safety devices and auxiliary equipment failures, placing the plant in a safe condition, and assist maintenance technicians with repairs.
- Assist in preventative maintenance of motors, pumps, boilers, cooling towers, controls, and flow meters.
- Participate in continuous drill training and professionalism development.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
- Preferred:
Technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, or related trades; apprenticeship or formal training in boiler operations; 6 months to a year specific to boiler operations.
- Quick and calm reaction in emergencies.
- Clear communication of management directives and SOPs.
- Reading instruments and interpreting data.
- Basic mathematics and interactive computer skills.
- Stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, work with hands above head.
- Use standard or extended ladder.
- Lift up to 75 lbs.
- Enter confined spaces.
- Work in elevated ambient temperatures.
