Job Summary

This position is for a skilled Steam Fitter / Welder at the journeyman level, responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus steam distribution system, components, and building steam equipment, as well as pipe fitting and welding in support of steam system and general shop maintenance activities.

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM, with occasional after‑hours or weekend duties as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain steam distribution system, system components, and building steam equipment; 50%
  • Perform pipe fitting and welding, and other welding work in support of general maintenance activities; 35%
  • Perform routine scheduled preventive maintenance on steam components and equipment; 10%
  • Perform other related building maintenance and repair tasks as directed by supervisor; 5%
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Journeyman-level knowledge, skills, and abilities of welding or pipe fitting trades.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches, and other project documents.
  • Ability to relate well with others (customers, coworkers, supervisors, etc.).
Physical Demands
  • Work in adverse weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Stand, walk, crawl, balance, stoop, bend, squat, and work with hands above shoulders; work from standard and/or extended ladders and/or scaffolds.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs consistently during a normal work shift.
