Position Summary
Performs manual work at the journeyman level in floor covering installation, maintenance, and repair. The work involves the performance of skilled floor covering tasks by maintaining, repairing, and applying blocks, strips, or sheets of shock‑absorbing, sound‑deadening, or decorative covering to floors, walls, and cabinets. Work is inspected for satisfactory compliance with instructions, although routine repairs are usually made independently without supervision or review.
On occasion, the employee may work beyond normal duty hours due to emergencies or high priority work.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and techniques used in the floor covering trades.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans, sketches, visual instructions, and layouts.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. throughout the shift.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, squat, work from a standard or extended ladder, and work with hands above the head.
- Driving to perform work-related duties.
- The removal and installation of commercial glue‑down carpeting.
- Removal and installation of VCT (Vinyl Composition Tile) with the reminder of installing other vinyl floors.
- Other duties as assigned by managers.
