Position SummaryThis position involves skilled manual and technical work at near journeyman level in multiple trades. The individual will perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment in high containment BSL facilities and laboratories under supervision of a BSL Tech Lead. Work will be coordinated with the College of Veterinary Medicine and Facilities Management Division. Primary responsibilities support the operation and maintenance of the Animal Health Research Center (AHRC) and other BSL 3 campus laboratories.
Responsibilities include performing maintenance, assisting in other O&M tasks, and on-call duties. Incumbent will need to obtain and maintain Federal Select Agent & Tier 1 Clearance, assist in scheduling and communicating routine and non-routine maintenance, and participate in the UGA Occupational Health Program with ongoing vaccine tests and training in Insight and Zoonosis.

- Ability to use standard hand tools and equipment common to the mechanical and structural trades
- Ability to learn and use basic computer skills
- Ability to perform administrative functions related to building systems maintenance (complete forms, record filing, etc.)
- Able to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, squat, crawl, climb ladders or scaffolds, and lift up to 75 lbs
- Work may involve wearing PPE in a BSL 3 environment and working in confined spaces
- Driving as needed to perform job duties
- Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent - Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of experience in similar facilities performing general trades
- Performs preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment in high containment BSL facilities (45%)
- Troubleshoots and repairs minor/non-complex problems in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural systems; assists senior technicians (25%)
- Maintains documentation and communication concerning BSL conditions and related matters (10%)
- Provides 24/7 emergency response to BSL facility issues on a rotating basis (45% appears to exceed total; consolidated as appropriate in final draft)
