Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of experience, vocational training at the journeyman level in one of the applicable trades, or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Position Summary

The primary function of this position is to perform a variety of building maintenance tasks in and around the residence halls. The employee works with approximately 1,200 student residents, providing customer service, communication, and maintaining the residential program 24/7. Shift availability is required and may include Saturday, Sunday, or after‑hours as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
  • Safely operate and use various tools associated with the skilled trades field, e.g., power and hand tools.
  • Execute work assignments independently with limited callbacks for cleanup or repairs.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with a wide variety of individuals, including building service workers, residence hall staff, students/families, and other team members via telephone, in writing, or in person.
  • Work effectively as a team member.
  • Utilize computer applications for assigned tasks, including One Source, Microsoft Office Suite, UGA email and employee websites.

Physical Demands
  • Climb stairs and ladders; may work from a ladder or scaffold.
  • Bend at waist and knees.
  • Work with arms and hands overhead for extended periods.
  • Stand, kneel, or squat for long periods.
  • Use, care for and maintain hand tools and power tools.
  • Lift and move items at least 50 lb, both assisted and unassisted.
  • Perform tasks indoors with steam, humidity or hot/cold conditions and outdoors in various seasons and weather.
  • Safely operate a UGA state vehicle when necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Basic Repairs – Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, appliance repairs and complete work requests in a timely manner using the web‑based system.
  • Shop Operations – Identify, complete, and plan improvement projects; maintain a clean, stocked shop; keep inventory organized.
  • On‑Call/Summer Duties – Participate in after‑hour on‑call program; perform summer work assignments, including special projects, safety inspections, and crew supervision.
