Hiring Incentive Program

Effective 11/18/2025. A one‑time $3,000 hiring incentive, paid in $1,000 increments. Eligible newly hired full‑time Plant Mechanics will receive $1,000 after 3 months of service, $1,000 after 6 months, and $1,000 after 12 months of employment.

Purpose of Job

Perform mechanical/specialty work functions associated with operation and maintenance of water reclamation systems, maintenance and repair of water treatment plant systems, electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment. Duties and responsibilities include maintaining records, repairing, maintaining and operating pumps, wells and motors; performing preventive maintenance and manual work activities; performing carpentry, welding, plumbing and concrete finishing tasks; and performing additional tasks as assigned.

  • Work schedule:

    Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; may require some after‑hour and weekend work occasionally.
  • May be required to work on religious holidays.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must work cooperatively with others.
  • When vehicle operation is required, responsible for safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC’s safe driving policy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of experience in mechanics, pump maintenance, water reclamation or treatment systems, wastewater systems maintenance, mechanical operations/maintenance or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain raw water/wastewater treatment equipment including clarifiers, water basins, filters and hypochlorite generators to ensure proper operation; maintain lift stations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities such as cleaning and greasing pumps, cleaning wet wells, and changing filters.
  • Repair, rebuild or replace motors, pumps, gear boxes, drive shafts, coupling and belts.
  • Check pumps, gauges, backflow devices, clear wells and motors to ensure proper operation.
  • Assist in repairing and troubleshooting electronic low‑voltage circuitry.
  • Maintain records on pumps, wells and motors.
  • Handle liquid and dry chemicals; handle hazardous chemicals.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Perform building and grounds maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Operate light duty equipment (e.g., forklift).
  • Operate and handle general maintenance hand tools.
  • Assist in annual inventory reporting and record keeping.
  • Operate City Works to keep track of preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Respond to routine requests for information from employees and members of staff.
  • Prepare and/or receive various forms, reports or other documents; process and forward as appropriate.
  • Communicate via telephone and/or two‑way radio; provide information; take and relay messages and/or direct calls to appropriate personnel; return calls as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the Public Utilities Department.
  • Knowledge of terminology used within the department.
  • Knowledge of lift station pumping operations, raw water and water reclamation systems, and general mechanical operations.
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, repair and maintenance techniques for pumps, wells and motors, and other procedures and methods required in the performance of duties.
  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance techniques for pumps and motors.
  • Knowledge of water filter systems and pneumatic equipment and general mechanical operations.
  • Skill in repairing and maintaining pumps, reading blueprints and technical manuals, low‑voltage electrical equipment, maintaining records, and in oral/written communication.
