Amentum – HVAC Mechanic (Kings Bay, Georgia)
Installs, services, and repairs environmental‑control systems in residences, office buildings, and other commercial/industrial settings. Utilizes knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipe fitting, structural layout, and strong computer skills for troubleshooting digital control software. Mounts compressors, condensers, and chiller units, fabricates and installs ductwork and chassis parts, installs evaporator units, cuts and bends tubing and pipe, joins tubing to refrigerating units, installs valves, connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and ventilators to control panels, and installs filters.
Injects refrigerant, tests systems, observes pressure and vacuum, tests for leaks, insulates pipes, and replaces defective controls and wiring. May install, repair, and service air conditioners ranging from 5‑200 tons cooling capacity. Performs other duties as assigned.
- High‑school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have at least one of the following:
- Graduate of an accredited technical school’s HVAC/R diploma program.
- Three years verifiable commercial work experience as a journey‑level HVAC/R mechanic or county, state, or city HVAC/R license.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- CFC Refrigerant Universal Class
A. - Strong computer skills for troubleshooting and correcting digital control software.
- Knowledge of specialized tools for maintenance and repairs.
- Standard tools of the trade.
- Wearing hard‑toed safety shoes meeting ASTM F2413‑05 standards.
- Subject to a government security investigation; must continually meet eligibility requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization; U.S. citizenship required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Strongly preferred:
Metasys, Telatrol, or Niagara Building Automation experience.
- Walking: frequent.
- Standing: frequent.
- Climbing: up to 24 feet.
- Stooping/Bending: moderate.
- Crawling: occasional.
- Reaching: moderate.
- Lifting: up to 50 lbs.
- Health & Welfare: $15.42 per hour contributed to benefits (effective 12/01/25).
- 401(k):
Company match up to 6% of employee contributions. - Paid Time Off:
Starts at 2.62 hours per pay period (136 hours annually), with increases based on tenure. - Holidays: 12 paid holidays.
- Additional Leave:
Bereavement and leave share programs.
- Shift Differential:
Extra $1.75–$2.00 per hour depending on shift start time. - Hazard Pay: $3.00 per hour for designated high‑risk work areas.
- Lead Pay:
Additional $2.25 per hour for lead roles (temporary or permanent). - On‑Call Pay:
Two hours of overtime pay per day when on call during off‑days/holidays.
- Safety Shoes: $175 annual allowance.
- Prescription Safety Glasses:
Up to $250 annually per policy.
- Includes provisions for overtime, safety requirements, and additional contract‑based benefits.
Base hourly rate: $36.71.
