University of Georgia Facilities Management Division is the largest of seven divisions reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. Staff of over 900 personnel manage, operate, and maintain campus landscapes, buildings, and infrastructure to promote long‑term sustainability.

Salary: $50,000 or commensurate with experience

Work Schedule:

Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM‑4:30 PM, with occasional overtime, evenings, or weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven years of experience internal to Facilities Management Division or 10 years external experience in a structural maintenance or construction setting.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for facilities maintenance, construction, and upkeep of physical properties related to the carpentry trade.
Position Summary

This position performs advanced‑level carpentry work in support of facilities maintenance, construction, and upkeep of physical structures. Responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving structural issues and installing, repairing, and replacing components of structural framing, fenestrations, façades, interior finishes, and roofing systems. The role addresses complex construction‑related problems and implements preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance solutions. It also serves as a crew lead on larger or more complex carpentry installation, repair, or replacement projects.

Knowledge,

Skills, Abilities & Competencies
  • Advanced (Senior) Journeyman level trade person.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex structural failures.
  • Advanced knowledge of the International Building Code.
  • Experience installing and repairing doors, frames, pre‑hung and slab doors, locks, pre‑hung windows, attic ladder sets.
  • Experience installing and replacing window frames, pre‑hung window units, and broken windows.
  • Experience installing drywall, chalkboards, acoustic ceilings, and floors.
  • Experience constructing additions, extensions, and alterations to existing structures.
  • Experience operating a variety of carpentry equipment including saws, routers, drills, sanders, and planers.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
  • Ability to perform rough framing duties using wood and metal materials.
  • Experience cutting and hanging trim work.
  • Ability to instruct and assist other carpenters on projects.
  • Competence to communicate pertinent and accurate information to facilitate multi‑personnel repair efforts.
  • Competence to assess next steps and communicate specific trade needs to resolve issues.
  • Competence to perform all construction, remodel, repair, replacement, and renovation duties in accordance with departmental standards and applicable code.
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Stand, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and work with hands above head.
  • Work in extreme conditions (hot or cold), trenches, confined spaces, attics, crawlspaces, mechanical rooms, etc.
  • Work from a standard and extended ladder.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect and diagnose structural issues and provide corrective solutions.
  • Install and repair doors, frames, windows, attic ladder sets, and other structural components.
  • Perform rough framing duties using wood and metal materials.
  • Trim, hang, and finish doors, sliding doors, enclosures, and overhangs.
  • Construct additions, extensions, and alterations to existing structures.
  • Read and follow blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
  • Document all actions performed and maintain accurate timekeeping.
  • Assist and instruct other carpenters on projects.
