Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
Five years of experience, vocational training in one of the applicable trades, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

The primary function is to participate in maintenance related activities to develop proficiency in all aspects of skilled trades. Tasks include a variety of building maintenance duties in and around residence halls (pathways and public areas). The incumbent serves in one of five facilities zones, housing 1,000–2,000 residents. Duties require communication and customer service with peers, residents and stakeholders; weekend and holiday shifts may be required to uphold 24/7 residential program standards.

Availability to work the specified shift with occasional additional shifts on weekends or after hours.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Basic Repairs — Participate in maintenance activities to develop proficiency in skilled trades. Assist with minor electrical repairs and troubleshooting; perform filter changes and minor preventive maintenance; assist with drain and plumbing issues; assist with replacement of doors/windows and related hardware; assist with appliance removal/replacement in resident apartments; perform touch-up painting; maintain pathways and exteriors ( blowing leaves, pressure washing).
  • Periodic Inspections — Inspect fire extinguishers monthly; inspect/clean mechanical rooms and storage areas; ensure accessibility of doorways and entrances.
  • Summer and Misc. Tasks — Perform summer work assignments and safety inspections; other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Safely operate tools used in the skilled trades (power and hand tools).
  • Work independently with limited callbacks for cleanup or repairs; communicate professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member.
  • Proficient with computer applications (e.g., One Source, Microsoft Office, UGA email and employee websites).
