Position SummaryThis position involves skilled manual and technical work at near journeyman level in multiple trades. The employee will possess basic skills across different trades and will primarily perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment in high containment BSL facilities and laboratories under the supervision and direction of a BSL Tech Lead. Work is assigned and reviewed by the BSL Tech Lead with coordination with the College of Veterinary Medicine on research issues and with the Facilities Management Division on operations and maintenance issues.
The primary function is to support the operation and maintenance of the Animal Health Research Center and other BSL 3 campus laboratories. Responsibilities include maintenance work as needed and, on occasion, assisting members of the AHRC and other O&M shop teams. The role involves on-call duties and occasional nights and weekends as required. The incumbent must obtain and maintain Federal Select Agent & Tier 1 Clearance and be enrolled in the UGA Occupational Health Program with annual vaccine testing and basic training in Insight and Zoonosis.

- Able to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, squat, crawl, climb ladder and scaffold, and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Work may involve wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment in a BSL 3AG environment and working in confined spaces
- Driving as needed to perform job duties
45% preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment in high containment BSL facilities and laboratories, working alongside a BSL Tech II.
25% troubleshoot and repair minor or non‑complex problems with building systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural) and related components associated with BSL laboratories; assist senior technicians.
10% maintain documentation and communication concerning BSL conditions, inspection, calibration, and other facility related matters.
10% on a rotating basis with other qualified individuals provide 24/7 emergency response to system problems and alarm conditions affecting BSL facilities.
5% keep up‑to‑date on applicable BSL rules, regulations, procedures and related practices, and adhere to all regulatory requirements and safety protocols.
5% assist and support with other duties as assigned by the BSL Facilities Maintenance Tech Lead.
