Position SummaryThis position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing commercial kitchen equipment, performing general building maintenance tasks, and performing preventative maintenance for equipment and dining facilities. General maintenance tasks will include plumbing, electrical work, painting, wall covering, low‑grade construction, and more. Work orders are assigned daily by the Maintenance Foreman. The technician provides status updates and maintains service reports. When necessary, the technician submits work orders to Facilities Management Division for work beyond their scope.
Minimum QualificationsRequires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on‑the‑job training. Please contact Human Resources for evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Troubleshooting skills for commercial kitchen equipment using schematics and manuals.
- Basic plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with staff and various customer groups.
- Teamwork skills while also making effective independent decisions.
- Efficient use of computer applications for assigned tasks.
- Climb stairs and ladders, may work from a ladder or scaffold.
- Bend at the waist and knees.
- Work with arms and hands overhead for an extended period.
- Use, care, and maintain hand tools and power tools.
- Navigate and maneuver through confined spaces, crawling in utility tunnels, attics, pipe chases, etc.
- Lift and move items of 75 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted.
- May occasionally perform work related duties outdoors in hot or cold temperatures.
- Safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
This position offers a 40‑hour work week. Hours and schedule may vary to include nights and some weekends as needed, and the position is part of an on‑call rotating schedule.
Salary$31,500 / yr – $40,000 / yr; commensurate with experience.
