Location:
Athens Area
Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (some night and weekend work may be required). No on‑call rotation. Essential worker.
Position SummaryThis advanced position within the Grounds Heavy Equipment division supports a wide range of construction and maintenance operations. The incumbent assists Concrete Masons with forming and placement of concrete, serves as a spotter during excavation activities, and performs back filling, grading, and utility repairs. The role involves operating a dump truck, skid steers, backhoes, mini excavators, and breakers. Candidates lacking a Class B Commercial Driver’s License must complete in‑house Entry Level Driver Training and obtain a CDL Learner’s Permit within six months of hire.
Additional duties include traffic control, project support, and weather‑related assistance such as snow, ice, and downed‑tree removal.
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
- Class B CDL and 2 years of experience in the construction field.
- Operate skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, and dump trucks for civil construction projects including utility installation, grading/drainage, hauling, paving, and sidewalk work (approximately 60% of time).
- Excavate and install utility piping and assist with utility repairs (10%).
- Establish elevations and set bases for new pavement construction (10%).
- Assist in asphalt placement as well as the forming and placement of concrete (10%).
- Set up and perform traffic control, placing and maintaining barricades, cones, and temporary signage (10%).
- Lift up to 75 lbs throughout an 8‑hour workday.
- Stand, walk, stoop, and bend for long periods; work from ladders and with hands above head.
- Perform duties under adverse weather conditions (rain, heat, cold).
- Drive vehicles and operate heavy equipment as required.
