EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2

Under general supervision from equipment or maintenance superintendent, the Equipment Operator 2 operates heavy motorized equipment and performs minor repairs on equipment to support Grounds Maintenance projects.
Responsibilities- Operate a variety of heavy motorized equipment such as cherry pickers, 4‑6 ton compactor, 7‑ton dozer, excavator, over 23,000 lb. grader, low‑boy, mud jack, backhoe, tractor and trailer, pull‑type paver, pavement grinder, 8‑10 ton roller, truck mounted sewer cleaner, steamer, hand and hot liner striper, 10 ton sweeper, low‑boy 10 ton tractor, 25,000‑lb. to 35,000‑lb. dump truck, all‑boom, platform and/or pounder trucks, traffic line remover, and vac‑all sweeper;
also operate any equipment used by a Equipment Operator 1 as needed. - Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment (e.g., greasing, oiling, checking tires and lights).
- Perform general labor, maintenance and related functions, including loading and unloading materials, checking for damages, and completing maintenance reports and paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Skill in operating heavy motorized equipment and maintaining and repairing such equipment.
- Ability to cooperate with coworkers on group projects.
- Ability to complete routine forms and reports accurately.
- Ability to follow oral, written, and pictorial instructions.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to foster a welcoming and respectful workforce and community.
- Dexterity and skill in using craft‑associated hand and/or power tools and equipment.
- Comprehension and use of common vocabulary in written communication.
- Basic arithmetic skills and ability to apply principles to solve practical problems.
- Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Twenty‑four months of training and/or experience operating the equipment listed; or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement, renewed as required.
- Successful completion of a required test may be required.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of safety practices associated with the operation of heavy motorized equipment.
Department:
Grounds Maintenance. Work requires physical exertion including lifting, carrying, climbing, and operating heavy equipment in outdoor environments.
Pay Range: $21.86 – $24.66 per hour for full‑time, benefits‑eligible employees. Benefits include medical, vision, dental, basic and supplemental life insurance, winter break closure, paid holidays, educational benefits for the employee and eligible dependents, sick leave, vacation, and retirement.
