Position Summary

This is skilled technical work at a journeyman level involving operating, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing: plumbing systems and components, steam and hot water boiler equipment, other gas-fired equipment and fire protection systems. This includes systems in building as well as utility service: water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and gas distribution systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair steam and hot water boilers and associated system equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair building plumbing systems and components.
  • Read and understand oral and written instructions and to work from blueprints and sketches.
  • Understand and apply standard trade practices in performing work.
  • Prepare simple, clear and concise written description of work performed.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. throughout shift.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, squat, work from a standard or extended ladder, and work with hands above head.
  • Driving to perform work related duties.
  • Work is performed in both buildings and outside and at times involves working while exposed to adverse weather conditions.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Replace, install, and modify plumbing systems associated with casework during renovation and remodeling projects. (Percentage of time: 50%)
  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair and install: building plumbing systems, related equipment, utility services (gas, water, sewer), steam and HW boilers, furnaces and associated equipment. (Percentage of time: 30%)
  • Interact with customers via phone and in person to coordinate work. Prepare work related documents (work orders, vouchers, reports, purchase request, etc.). (Percentage of time: 10%)
  • Complete other duties assigned by the supervisor as necessary to meet project needs. (Percentage of time: 10%)

Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM. On occasion, employee may be required to perform duties after hours (evenings and weekends) due to emergency situations or planned work.
