Position: Lowndes County Extension 4-H Program Assistant

Position Summary

This position is a non‑exempt staff role within UGA Cooperative Extension that coordinates and distributes time for the satisfactory delivery of the 4‑H county program. The incumbent manages Extension program administration and 4‑H education delivery, under the supervision of the county‑assigned 4‑H Agent and County Extension Coordinator. Attendance at 4‑H events may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Pursues and develops adequate computer skills to enhance communication with the public and 4‑H data management.
  • Maintains efficient use of time and resources.
  • Enthusiasm and desire to work with young people and adults.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with county, district, state staff, local government employees, and clientele.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Physical Demands

Some physical activity including lifting, standing, sitting, and driving. Must work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist 4‑H'ers in preparing for competitive events.
  • Transport or arrange transportation of 4‑H'ers to district and state events.
  • Provide leadership for youth during events.
  • Conduct in‑school club meetings and deliver curricula aligned with state guidelines.
  • Incorporate program evaluations in planning future programs.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and supervise 4‑H volunteers; assist in chaperone training.
  • Manage volunteer leadership for programs such as Archery, Horse Club, BB Team, and Livestock Show Teams.
  • Make reports to clients, staff, Boards, and public officials via mass media, websites, meetings.
  • Submit accurate GA Counts, 4‑H enrollment, and District Office reports.
  • Participate in staff conferences.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day operations of the county office: answer phones, process mail, distribute publications, greet visitors, file documents.
  • Maintain office inventory of supplies and materials.
