Essential Functions- Drive tractor‑trailer (Flatbed) to deliver precast concrete to job sites safely and efficiently using learned skills and knowledge.
- Follow DOT & TH&E safety regulations, policies and procedures at all times.
- Wear required personal protective equipment while on duty.
- Receive daily instructions and load assignments from the local dispatcher.
- Execute load assignments that are in compliance with all Federal, State and local DOT rules, regulations, curfew restrictions and permit constraints.
- Report any non‑compliance immediately, present information to the dispatcher courteously, and assist in resolving the issue without violating rules.
- Ensure tractors and trailers are in good working condition by performing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Complete required paperwork daily: trip summary, driver’s logs, vehicle inspection reports, bills of lading, wait/work time sheets and other forms.
- Report any maintenance problems to the maintenance department and inform dispatch.
- Verify proper load assignment by checking trailer number, job number (when used) and piece marks.
- Secure loads using chains, ratchet binders, straps (when specified) and corner guards according to DOT rules and TH&E policies.
- Do not use straps on finished‑good products.
- Verify that no loose material or dunnage is unsecured while in transit.
- Stay up to date on DOT rules and regulations by reviewing the driver’s handbook.
- Verify that all required documents for operating the truck (registration, insurance certificate, IFTA card, annual inspection and hauling permits) are current.
- Report delays or downtime to dispatch.
- Maintain contact with job‑site supervision to ensure proper placement of trailers for off‑loading.
- Obtain customer signature for proof of delivery and/or for wait/work time sheets when required.
- Keep tractor clean and presentable.
- Commercial Driver’s License Class
A. - Acceptable driving record (no prior DUI/DWI, no crash with fatality, no historical pattern of speeding).
- Ability to pass company/DOT physical.
- Ability to pass company/DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Ability to work in various types of weather.
- Ability to respond to the remaining hours of service per Federal Regulations after receiving dispatcher’s preliminary order for the next day’s deliveries.
- Ability to confirm the next day’s finalized dispatch order before going off duty in the current day.
- Ability to work all available hours of service including weekends and holidays, provided no prior approved vacation conflicts.
- Minimum age 25 years or 23 years with 2 years of experience hauling similar concrete products.
- Ability to lift/carry grade 70 5/16" chains that are 25’ long; lift/carry and use ratchet binders; lift/carry and use 2” or 3” straps; push/pull or drag chains, binders or straps up to 13’6” in height.
- Ability to lift/carry/push/pull/drag tarp and secure it properly.
- Ability to climb ladder/tractor/trailer/load up to 13’6” in height to secure load.
Employee works:
Outside 95% of day;
Inside 5% of day.
Amount of time spent each day:
Standing 10%;
Walking 10%;
Sitting 80%.
Will frequently be required to lift/carry up to 50‑75 lbs., push/pull up to 50‑75 lbs., climb ladders/trailers/loads, kneel/squat/bend.
