Position Summary
This manual position involves using equipment such as pallet jacks, dollies, and trucks to move heavy items. Duties include operating a truck that hauls laborers, furniture, freight, material, and equipment; loading and unloading trucks; checking truck condition and reporting needed adjustments or repairs; and servicing equipment. Drivers must drive a box truck and may occasionally operate a forklift, electric lifts, and pallet jacks.
Loading and unloading freight is a core responsibility. Driving is essential.
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Work‑related knowledge of moving furniture.
- Operate equipment such as a pick‑up truck, state van, hand trucks, and related moving equipment.
- Flexibility to work after 5:30 p.m. and/or on weekends for special events and emergencies.
- Stoop, bend, squat, climb stairs, and work with hands above head or from a ladder.
- Lift up to 75 lbs. during shifts.
- Perform duties under adverse climatic conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
- Operate trucks and hand trucks.
- Drive as required.
- Operate a truck hauling furniture, freight, and other equipment; load and unload trucks; inspect truck condition and report adjustments or repairs.
- Perform manual and semi‑skilled tasks, including loading and unloading freight.
- Occasionally operate a forklift and use electric lifts and pallet jacks.
- Support special events on campus by delivering equipment, setting up stages, tables, chairs, and other items, and breaking them down after the event.
- Move furniture and laboratory equipment on campus; relocate entire departments or buildings when needed.
- Collect surplus items on campus and deliver them to Property Surplus.
- Pick up and deliver items from the warehouse or other locations to various buildings on campus; perform minor assembly of small equipment or fixtures as needed.
Work Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM. Some night or weekend work may be required.
Location: Athens Area, University of Georgia.
SalaryAdvertised Salary: $37,500 per year.
