Bobcat Arts Care (BAC) Coaches are under the supervision of the Well-Being Programming & Outreach Graduate Assistant, Well-Being Coaching Student Supervisor, and the Assistant Director of Well-Being and Fitness within the Department of Well-Being & Recreation as part of the Division of Student Affairs. The role of the Bobcat Arts Care Coach is to support students' mental and physical well-being through arts-based coaching.
BAC coaches offer individualized, non-clinical coaching to help students identify their well-being needs and develop personalized goals that incorporate meaningful engagement in various art disciplines. Coaches utilize active listening, evidence-based goal-setting strategies, and arts-informed well-being practices to empower students to reduce stress, build connections, and support overall wellness. BAC Coaches are expected to follow all protocols set forth by the Student Well-Being Coaching Service and to adhere to Ohio University Well-Being & Recreation's policies and procedures.
Major Responsibilities:
* Support students in identifying well-being goals and needs, with an emphasis on mental, emotional, and physical wellness through arts engagement
* Assist students in identifying appropriate arts-based experiences, events, or creative activities on campus and in the community
* Provide logistical support as needed, including assistance with locating events, identifying schedules, navigating transportation, or accessing tickets
* Address students' concerns open-mindedly and with evidence-based advice and strategies
* Serve as an active listener to each student's needs and goals - Provide educational resources or referrals to students who may need additional support
* Ability to empathize and navigate difficult conversations
* Maintain confidentiality of coaching sessions and student information
* Act as a mandated reporter if information disclosed to them indicates risk of harm to the student or others
* Complete required trainings held by the department
* Communicate with students in a timely and professional manner
* Communicate with supervisor(s) about any concerns or questions
Job Profile
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Offers academic and/or well-being support to fellow students, helping them navigate academic, social, or personal challenges. Responsibilities may include providing peer counseling, resources, and referrals to other campus services.
Level Summary
Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
No budgetary responsibility.
Problem Solving:
Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.
Independence of Action:
Works under close supervision.
Communication and
Collaboration:
Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.

* Self-motivated and willingness to take initiative
* Empathetic and understanding
* Personal focus on one's own well-being and health
* Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft systems and software
Working Condition/Physical Demands:
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
