Position Title:
Peer Tutor / Peer‑Assisted Learning Leader / Undergraduate Writing Commons Tutor | Department:
Academic Achievement Center | Compensation: $11.30 per hour |
Schedule:
Mondays – Thursdays 11 am – 8 pm, Fridays 11 am – 5 pm, Sundays 4 pm – 8 pm (student hours). |
Location:
Athens, Ohio and regional campuses (online and on‑campus). | Hiring is part of a part‑time, term schedule.
- Complete the required 10 hours of paid training.
- Attend all scheduled tutoring or PAL sessions.
- Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs.
- Create a positive learning environment and encourage independent learning by helping students identify problem areas and giving them opportunities to practice and build knowledge.
- Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the FERPA compliance statement.
- Keep up‑to‑date with appointments using the Trac Cloud scheduling software.
- Check email and Teams to remain informed of activity at the AAC.
- Submit accurate time sheets and enter hours in Workforce in a timely manner.
- Facilitate weekly review sessions for students in historically difficult courses (PAL Leaders). Discuss concepts, provide study strategies, and teach independent learning skills.
- Attend class, communicate with the professor, and plan review sessions (PAL Leaders).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Grade of “B” or higher in the courses you wish to tutor or work as a PAL Leader.
- Completed at least one semester of undergraduate college‑level coursework at Ohio University.
- Must be available to work 6 – 12 hours every week for the entire semester.
- Currently enrolled at Ohio University.
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience.
- Qualified to tutor or lead PAL sessions for 1000‑ and 2000‑level courses in one or more academic subject areas.
- Paid hourly wage.
