Assistant Mock Trial Coach
The Assistant Mock Trial Coach is a part-time intermittent position that provides guidance, mentorship, and training to our university's mock trial team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing students for competitions while enhancing their advocacy and trial skills and fostering a competitive and collaborative team environment.
Primary Accountabilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of effective coaching strategies to enhance students' understanding of trial procedures, case analysis, and courtroom advocacy.
- Coach students in trial advocacy techniques, including, but not limited to, writing and performing opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, closing arguments, applicable rules of evidence and legal principles, developing case theme, theory, and trial strategies, and making and responding to objections.
- Meet with students one on one or in small groups to provide personalized oral and written guidance and feedback to identify areas of strength and improvement while building student confidence.
- Attend and lead regular mock trial practices. As agreed, accompany team to invitational, regional, and other competitions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and less than 3 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree
- Juris Doctor – in Law Experience in Mock Trials
