Benefits Specialist

The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan.

Pay range: $56,208.17-$64,565.51 based on experience, education, and/or licensure.

• Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
• Assists with new‑hire orientations.
• Performs quality checks of benefits‑related data.
• Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
• Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
• Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
• Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries.
• Processes and administers all leave‑of‑absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA & BWC.
• Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
• Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch‑up contribution enrollment.
• Assists with the open enrollment process.
• Administers the tuition reimbursement & CEU programs.
• Administers the vehicle lease program.
• Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
• Monthly reconciliation of benefit invoices.
• Travel within designated service area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High school degree or GED equivalent is required.
• Bachelor's degree in human resources related fields is required.
• SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification credential preferred.

• 2-3 years' experience in benefits administration required.
• 1-2 years experience administering FMLA and other leave programs required.

Required Skills / Abilities

• Extensive knowledge of employee benefits leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required.
• Intermediate level Excel skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle required.
• Appropriate level of auto insurance coverage required.
• Ability to manage deadlines within a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
• Ability to operate in an Internet‑based, automated office environment.
• Ability to maintain high‑speed internet connection.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer required.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times required.
