The IT Business Analyst III leads business discovery, requirements gathering, and stakeholder engagement across multiple systems, products, and services. This role bridges functional and technical teams by analyzing and improving processes, designing user engagement strategies, and supporting data-informed decision-making. Success in this role depends on the ability to build strategic, trust-based partnerships across campus. The Business Analyst must lead with empathy and insight, navigating diverse perspectives to foster collaboration and co-create solutions that enhance the campus experience and promote the effective, sustainable use of university resources.
Position Profile Works with colleges, schools, and departments to understand and define IT business needs. Develops and recommends solutions. Plans implementation, integration and maintenance of solutions into business process or system design. Level Summary Manages and resolves complex and ambiguous issues. Works on both strategic and operational challenges, addressing problems that require advanced knowledge and experience. Often takes on leadership roles in projects or initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities Provides mentorship and guidance to team. Infrequently has a limited number of direct reports. Fiscal Responsibilities
May have budgetary responsibility for small-scale projects or initiatives. Problem Solving Solves complex problems, often with limited guidance. Independence of Action Works independently; seeks guidance for unusual situations. Communication and Collaboration Collaborates with team members and external departments. May represent the team in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Physical Requirements This role is primarily desk-based with extensive use of desktop computers, phones, and other standard office equipment. Work is performed in an office or remote environment with regular interruptions and deadlines. Physical demands are typical of office work, including sitting for extended periods and repetitive use of a keyboard and mouse.
Minimum Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience delivering results in a large or federated environment (higher ed, public sector).
* Demonstrated impact on satisfaction, reliability, adoption, or other metrics.
* Ability to work and collaborate effectively with partners, customers, and stakeholders with diverse perspectives and needs
* Strong skills in written and verbal communication, especially stakeholder communication and collaboration.
* Familiarity with IT risk, accessibility, and security practices.
* Comfort with IT methodologies and practices (agile, service management, etc.).
* Proven success in stakeholder engagement, guiding change, and ensuring user experience is reflected in solutions.
* Fluency in data governance, compliance, and integration/API implications.
* Track record steering complex scope toward measurable outcomes, adoption, and positive user impact.
* Enterprise-level process redesign and decision facilitation across multiple units.
* Demonstrated influence with senior stakeholders. Department Information and Technology Office Pay Rate The target salary range is $68,299.00 to $92,205 commensurate with the selected candidate's education and experience while considering internal equity.
