Executive Vice President and Provost

Ohio University has launched a national search for our next Executive Vice President and Provost, with the goal of naming the next executive vice president and provost before the start of the 2026-27 spring semester.

Academic Strategy and Leadership
  • Lead the development and implementation of academic priorities aligned with the University’s strategic plan
  • Oversee the academic portfolio, ensuring program quality, relevance, and sustainability
  • Advance interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation across colleges and campuses
  • Maintain and strengthen Ohio University’s standing as an R1 research institution
Faculty Leadership and Shared Governance
  • Partner effectively within a unionized faculty environment, respecting collective bargaining agreements and established governance structures
  • Oversee faculty affairs including recruitment, professional development, enrichment opportunities, evaluation, and retention in alignment with contractual obligations and institutional priorities
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence and collaboration across faculty, staff, and academic leadership
Student Success and Experience
  • Partner across the institution to advance access, opportunity, and success for undergraduate and graduate students, including first-generation students and learners with a wide range of experiences and educational pathways
  • Strengthen career preparation, experiential learning, and global engagement
Operational and Financial Stewardship
  • Manage complex academic budgets and resource allocation strategies
  • Align investments with institutional priorities and enrollment strategies
  • Lead data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts
Research and Innovation
  • Support the continued growth of the University’s research enterprise
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity to define and advance and institutional research priorities
  • Promote a culture of discovery, creativity, and scholarly impact
Community Engagement and Regional and Global Impact
  • Advance the University’s standing as a national university serving Ohio and the Appalachian region and solving problems that transcend borders
  • Build partnerships with community, industry, and government stakeholders
  • Expand academic and workforce development initiatives across regional campuses

Position Profile

Chief Academic Officer. Leadership role with a faculty appointment. Level Summary Provides strategic leadership for all academic programs, faculty affairs, and student success efforts across the institution. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages entire academic profile. Fiscal Responsibilities Ensure strong financial stewardship, aligning academic resources with institutional priorities and enrollment realities. Problem Solving Resolves highly complex issues requiring in-depth analysis, judgment, and interpretation. Evaluates competing priorities and recommends strategic solutions.

Independence of Action Operates with full autonomy under broad direction. Communication and Collaboration Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, senior leaders, governing bodies, and external stakeholders, and to foster transparency, collaboration, and trust across the institution. Physical Requirements Work is primarily performed in an office and meeting environment. The position will require travel to meetings, events, and other university locations.
